The Past 18 Years The
Ergonomics AG für Kommunikation was founded by three engineers in Zurich, Switzerland in 1991. The focus
of the business activities changed quickly from hardware to software developments, after a strategic
partnership could be established with NCR in the field of ATM application software developments. With
the introduction of the electronic purse CASH in Switzerland, the activities expanded into the area
of smart card systems and related solutions. Subsequently, a number of software engineering and integration
projects for EFT-POS payment terminals could be completed on behalf of Telekurs, the Swiss interbank
clearing company. We
designed, developed and operated the UBS Paycenter during the last national exhibition Expo.02. This
system processed every payment transaction that was conducted during the six months event. The UBS Paycenter
was later expanded and marketed as the Ergonomics ep2 POS Management System (ePMS) for the retail market
in Switzerland. In
2002 we could establish a partnership with the Belgian manufacturer Vasco. One year later, the US-based
Datakey® (now SafeNet) could be added. With these two partners, Ergonomics is able to offer comprehensive
solutions and services in the areas of strong authentication and PKI. Since
2005, Ergonomics has been a frame contract partner with the Schweizerischen Informatikkonferenz (www.sik.ch),
a body
that co-ordinates the IT activities of the Swiss cantons. With
our active participation in the association eCH (www.ech.ch), Ergonomics offers
know-how and expertise to standardize IT architectures for eGovernment applications. The
division Information Security & Risk Management was expanded in the second half of 2007 and early
2008 with
the
acquisition of new specialists. The three founders
are still actively involved
in the business activities. Ergonomics currently employs 30 associates.
